Waste Sorting in Numbers: Municipal Waste Recycling Rate

Over the past 20 years, Slovakia has made significant progress in the sorting and recycling of municipal waste – also in comparison with other European countries.

In the past, we regularly ranked at the very “tail” of Europe in Eurostat rankings and lagged behind countries such as Hungary and Bulgaria, while the results of more developed countries seemed unattainable for us. Today, the situation is different – Slovakia has already risen above the European average and currently ranks among the TOP 10 EU countries (9th place). We believe this result can improve even further.

Eurostat is the statistical office of the European Union that collects and compares official statistical data from all EU Member States.

In today’s graph, Samo Správny shows the development of the recycling rate in Slovakia compared with the European Union average.

Each additional percentage point of improvement is increasingly difficult to achieve. Nevertheless, we believe that Slovakia will continue this positive trend in the coming years.
