Slovakia has been making steady progress in waste sorting over the long term. Over the 20 years since NATUR-PACK was established, the municipal waste recycling rate has increased from just a few symbolic percentage points to more than 50%. A major turning point came after 2016 – since then, separate collection has been fully financed by producer responsibility organizations.
The result? Rapid growth, a stable system, and a significant improvement compared to the past.
We once ranked among the weakest performers in Europe. Today, step by step, we are moving closer to the leaders.
OZV NATUR-PACK is now the largest producer responsibility organization in Slovakia. Nearly 9,000 companies – our clients – contribute to financing the separate collection of household municipal waste.
However, financing sorting is not the end; on the contrary, it is only the beginning. Our role is also to oversee the recycling process to ensure that recyclers receive at least the amount of waste required each year under increasingly strict national and European legislation.
